Medical Records Specialist

JOB TITLE: Medical Records Specialist
STATUS: Full-time, Non-exempt
REPORTS TO: Practice Administrator

Job Description

Responsible for providing and maintaining accurate and complete patient records. Position requires attention to detail, ability to work both independently and within a team, and strong communication skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review charts for completeness ensuring all required information is included; note any deficiencies and refer to appropriate area for follow-up. Electronically review patient charts on a daily basis for next day’s appointments as assigned.

  • Sort, scan, and file a variety of medical records and information such as admission slips, laboratory and pathology reports, operative notes, and discharge summaries into electronic patient medical records in appropriate sections
  • Answer written and telephone requests for medical records or information; prepare records for release to patients and other providers
  • May be required to provide administrative support to management team as needed, including filing, typing, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma and 1 – 2 years of related experience.

  • Previous experience in medical records and/or a medical practice desired

  • Electronic Medical Record experience a plus
