Thank you for supporting the 3rd annual Premier Cares Foundation Prostate Cancer Walk 2012! We are pleased to announce that the Walk raised over $90,000 to provide screenings, education and treatment for prostate cancer. Over 600 walkers showed their support by coming out for the Walk on Saturday, September 29, on the beautiful Walkway Over the Hudson.
The Prostate Cancer Walk signifies the only men’s fundraising event in the Hudson Valley. Walkers came from as far away as Long Island, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. New this year was a magician, a massage therapist, and a table by the Man2Man Prostate Cancer Support Group. Dennis O’Hara, founder of the group and prostate cancer survivor, served as Grand Marshall of the Walk and shared his moving story of survival with the crowd.
Health statistics tell us that about 1 of every 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Ranking as the second leading cause of cancer death in men, it is also one of the most curable cancers when diagnosed early. Evan Goldfischer, MD, founder and Chairman of the Board of Premier Cares Foundation shared, “This was our 3rd Walk and it keeps getting better each year. I am constantly impressed by the turnout and support from our community for this event.”
After the Walk, walkers enjoyed refreshments and entertainment by Clear Channel radio’s Joe Daley. A huge attraction again this year was the da Vinci robot, which is actually used to perform surgery. Adults and kids alike lined up to try their skills. Closing the ceremony, Executive Director Julie Goldfischer announced the top four individual fundraising winners, who won awards such as Broadway tickets with a limo, dinner on the Hudson, and ride over the Hudson River in a private plane.
The Walk is the creation of the Premier Cares Foundation, which is committed to providing support and education to those individuals in our community who lack the resources for the treatment of urologic and gastrointestinal illnesses.
